Parents' courses

At Burgess Sports, we deeply understand the multifaceted challenges parents face in today's world while striving to provide a nurturing environment for their children. Our parenting workshops are designed to equip parents with essential tools to navigate these daily challenges, allowing them to effectively nurture their families amidst life's complexities.

Our belief in the transformative power of inclusive and equitable family involvement guides everything we do. The role of our Family Engagement Lead is central to ensuring that families' voices are not just acknowledged but actively integrated into every aspect of our programmes and activities.

Within our community at Burgess Sports, we firmly acknowledge the significance of empowering families to take an active role in their children's developmental journey. As the cornerstone of our family engagement efforts, our Family Engagement Lead acts as a leader, advisor, and catalyst for change. Their commitment to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion permeates through all our initiatives, fostering an environment where every family feels welcomed and valued.

We invite you to join us on this meaningful journey of empowerment, where we work collaboratively to create lasting impacts on the lives of young children. Together, let us forge a future where every family feels supported, valued, and empowered to thrive amidst life's challenges.

Wellbeing Group

This successful new initiative, was born from the recognition that parents often need a space to discuss topics beyond parenting, especially in light of the pandemic and the cost of living crisis. These sessions, distinct from counselling, offer platform for parents to share experiences and ideas on prioritizing self-care amidst increasing stress.

Structure and Topics: Each session, with themes like Our Story, Rest, Boundaries, We are

Unique, and Hopes and Dreams, encourages meaningful discussions and activities. The flexible structure allows for a more parent-led, relaxed atmosphere, fostering connection and support.

Participant Feedback: Participants describe the group as a supportive family, uplifting, and a platform to share feelings without judgment. The sessions, involving creative activities and evidence-based principles, serve as eye-opening confidence boosters.

Nourish

Cultivating Wellness Through Shared Cooking. In February, we launched our inaugural Nourish workshop, led by parent volunteer Nazma. Six parents and 18 children joined in the delightful experience of learning to make Samosas, fostering a sense of community through shared culinary exploration.

Expansion and Success: Following the positive response, we initiated pilot sessions for parent-led workshops, introducing recipes like falafel, fish balls, and tagine—ideas generated by parents from the Wellbeing Group. The success of these pilots led us to extend the offering to a larger group of parents, now collectively known as Nourish. Beyond nourishing our bodies, these sessions proved to be equally enriching for our minds.

Community Connection: Under the Nourish umbrella, the group engaged in cooking, eating, and clearing up together, creating a special bond through shared experiences. The sessions, initiated by parents, encapsulated the essence of community spirit.

A mind of their own

This is a highly successful workshop designed for parents. The session delves into effective ways of supporting children in developing robust mental health. The workshop has not only garnered positive feedback but has also demonstrated such success that there are no identified areas for improvement in preparation for the upcoming year. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of the content and facilitation, affirming its value for future participants.

Handling anger

Empowers parents to manage their anger effectively and support their

children in doing the same. A noteworthy aspect of this session was the

collaboration with a previously trained parent who co-led the course,

demonstrating exceptional skills.

Left to their own devices

ThIs great workshop series, strategically crafted for parents navigating the challenges of the online world with their children. The overwhelming success is evident as 100% of participants express their satisfaction, recommending the workshop to friends.
